NEW STAFF

The Almaden Community Center has recently had several new additions.  Please join us in welcoming everyone on board.

Dominic Polito
Dominic Polito is our new Recreation Supervisor for Council District 10.  Dominic has a Bachelors Degree in Recreation Administration from Cal poly San Luis Obispo, a Masters of Business Administration from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and a JD Law Degree from Santa Clara University.  Dominic brings nine years of Recreation experience to his new role as Recreation Supervisor, including five years as the Director of Via Rehabilitation's Cam Castanoan, three years with the City of Irvine, and one year with the City of San Luis Obispo.

Lacee Korsten
Lacee Korsten has recently come on board as a Recreation Program Specialist.  Lacee has a Bachelors Degree in Recreation and Leisure Management from Brigham Young University and ten years of recreation experience.  Lacee served two years as a Youth Coordinator for the YMCA where she was responsible for the development and implementation of after-school and teen programs.  She also served as a Special Events Recreation Leader for the City of Provo and a Recreation Program Coordinator for the City of Hollister.   Lacee will be overseeing fitness and gym programs.

James Barcia
As of January 3, 2008, we began cooking on site at our Almaden Cafe.  Many of you may have already tasted the great food that we have been serving.  The genius behind the meals is James Barcia.  James, our new Chef, has an extensive background in the food industry, including time working on Norwegian Cruse Lines and at the Almaden Country Club.  James has also attended the California Culinary Academy and caters special events on the side.

Surendra Prasad
Suren, our new Kitchen Aid, began working at the Almaden Community Center in late 2007.  Suren came to us "on loan" from Willows Senior Center, but quickly became such a valuable part of our team we didn't want to let him go back.  When not at Almaden, Suren spends time with his family which includes his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Sunshine Committee
Know of someone who needs to be remembered?  The Almaden Senior Program has a Sunshine Committee which is in charge of making sure cards are sent out to all members for their various life events.  Vivian Mallow is currently the chairperson of this committee and is great at making sure all get good cheer.  Call the office if you would like us to get a card off to someone.

Donations Needed
Our Almaden Crochet and Knitting group is hard at work again, this time making lap robes for thos in nursing homes.  To aid in their effort, they are looking for donations of yarn and crochet hooks.  Donations can be dropped off at the front counter.  Thank you in advance for your assistance.
